User Need

Bacteria adapt. It’s how they survive. So how do doctors know which antibiotics are currently working against which bacteria? Hospitals antibiograms tell only part of the story. To prescribe the right antibiotics, doctors need real-time, regional insight into which drugs are working against prevalent bacteria.

Additional Project Goals

  • Leverage athenahealth’s big data and epocrates’ mobile expertise in one app.

  • Rekindle Apple relationship with a distinctly iOS 7-inspired experience.

  • Accelerate development to deploy app on time with iOS 7 launch.

Results

  • Completed design, build and test phases in only 4 weeks.

  • Bugs+Drugs received heavy promotion in the app store.

  • Counted more than 100,000 downloads in 2 months, exceeding expectations by ten fold.

  • Generated 60+ leads for athenahealth’s electronic health record (EHR) platform.

  • Team received patent US 20160092657 A1 - Methods and apparatus for geography-based antimicrobial resistance tracking.
